From Indian Lakes began as the solo project of California-based singer/songwriter Joey Vannucchi. Growing up on 40 acres of land near Yosemite National Park, the multi-instrumentalist first gravitated toward drums, playing in various bands throughout his youth before eventually focusing on guitar and songwriting. Intricate rhythms continued to be a major feature of his thoughtful post-rock sound and at age 20, he began recording songs at a friend’s studio in the neighboring town of Indian Lakes. Initially releasing the material under the name Songs from Indian Lakes, Vannucchi shortened it after recruiting a group of musicians to begin playing live.

Now a full band, they released their debut LP, The Man with Wooden Legs, in 2009. A mix of full-band touring and living-room solo tours for Vannucchi’s 2011 Acoustic EP followed as their music continued to evolve, blending bits of warm, thoughtful indie rock and clever, angular post-rock. Their 2012 independent release, Able Bodies, was a bit of a commercial breakthrough earning accolades from Google Play, who listed them as one of the top unsigned bands for that year. They continued to tour hard and in 2013 signed a deal with Triple Crown Records, who released the band’s third LP, 2014’s Absent Sounds.
