Missy Elliott is not merely a visionary recording artist and performer; she is one of the few women who enjoys an equal amount of success behind the scenes as a prolific songwriter and producer, having garnered a star-studded list of production credits that includes Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Ciara and Destiny’s Child, among others. As the head of her own record label, the Goldmind, Inc., Missy launched the successful career of platinum-selling R&B star, Tweet. Elliott has been the face of a number of high profile advertising campaigns, including a GAP commercial with Madonna and a Vanilla Coke commercial with Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri. In addition to all of this, Elliott enjoyed phenomenal TV success with her dramality show, UPN’s The Road To Stardom with Missy Elliott. She has created a unique joint venture with adidas for a line of clothing, shoes and accessories under the moniker, Respect ME, and she has a biopic currently in the works. A passionate philanthropist, Elliott is also known for shining a light on the issue of domestic violence and the ways it affects children. Missy Elliott kicked off 2008 by wowing the world with the 1st ever 3D music video, for Block Party album cut “Ching-A-Ling,” and continued to sizzle with a new Pepsi commercial (which premiered during the NY Giants’ Superbowl XLII win), a Grammy nomination for Keyshia Cole’s “Let It Go,” a BET Award win for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist, and notable contributions to 2008’s hot new chart-topping albums by Janet Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Jazmine Sullivan, Danity Kane, TLC’s Chili, and the Pussycat Dolls. Over the summer, Elliott and adidas Originals launched the Respect ME Brand Ambassador campaign which enabled girls from around the world the opportunity to join Missy in future global ad campaigns and represent Respect ME in their local communities. In addition, she was named Cambridge Who’s Who Professional of the Year in the Music Industry.

Elliott also enjoyed a wide variety of successes in 2007: from writing and producing songs for Fantasia and Keyshia Cole; to being paid tribute at VH-1’s Hip Hop Honors and receiving the “Creative Visionary Award” at the 2nd Annual Black Girls Rock Awards Show at Lincoln Center; to remixing country with hip hop for the national television advertising campaign for Doritos Collisions.

The Portsmouth, VA native got her start in the early 90’s in the now defunct group Sista. Elliott quickly earned a rep for her writing skills in music’s inner circles and before long she began writing, producing and making guest appearances on records for other artists. She released her debut solo album, Supa Dupa Fly, in 1997 and the music world hasn’t been the same since!
