Kevin Garrett, a brown-eyed Pittsburgh native singing blue-eyed soul, channeled the depth and longing of crooners with longer careers and more birthdays before he even released his first album. Growing up, he played the violin, idolized Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Sam Cooke, and, after graduating from New York University, found himself signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
With an angelic voice and rapturous warmth, he sang of love and loss on his aptly titled EP Mellow Drama, which included the singles “Coloring” and “Control.” Like Sam Smith, his voice conveyed a damaged vulnerability. However, his sensibilities and sparse, hip-hop-inspired production were more similar to some of Frank Ocean and Jack Garratt’s work. In 2016, Garratt co-wrote and produced “Pray You Catch Me,” the first track on Beyonce’s album Lemonade.
Kevin Garrett is available for corporate events, private shows, milestone celebrations (birthday, anniversary), fundraisers, festivals, and more.
