A restless 12 year old, growing up in such diverse worlds as Copenhagen, Kenya, San Francisco and London, young Alex Vargas born to a South American father and an English mother, picked up the guitar and started knockin’ out tunes inspired by his parents’ record collection of Sam Cooke, Big Star, Sly Stone, Prince, Jeff Buckley and Nirvana. Alex was soon performing at local open mic nights and on his 15th birthday he played main support slot to US artist Beth Hart in front of an audience of 3000 music fans – totally blown away by the young performer.
Soon after leaving school Alex started to work with management Locomotion Entertainment and after having toured the UK club circuit playing in excess of 120 shows and self-releasing his first EP which sold 10k copies, he formed the band Vagabond and was signed to Geffen Records after the label’s president heard a 30 sec clip of Alex singing.
Vagabond released their debut single ‘Don’t Wanna Run No More’, on August 3, 2009 entering the UK album charts at number 14. Their album ‘You Don’t Know The Half Of It’ was released the following week. Throughout 2009, Vagabond toured the UK selling out two headline UK tours and performed at Glastonbury, T In The Park and V music festivals in the UK. Vagabond also performed main support to The Script and James Morrison.
On February 16, 2010 Alex broke up the band in order to free himself from the more polished pop sound of Vagabond and pursue a rawer, more personal sound as a solo artist.
Alex Vargas is available for corporate events, private shows, milestone celebrations (birthday, anniversary), fundraisers, festivals, and more.
